New EPR requirements in Hungary from 1st July on

The Hungarian government has made significant modifications and extensions to the obligations related to EPR (extended producer responsibility) through the new Government Decree 80/2023 (III. 14.).

Alongside the existing “environmental product fee” (EPF) system, the newly introduced “circulating products” (EPR) system will be implemented in accordance with the new regulations.
Both the EPF and EPR systems will run in parallel, meaning that starting from July 1, 2023, both systems will be in operation.
Based on the new regulation, EPR will affect producers, distributors as well as foreign distance sellers withour entity in Hungary.

Foreign based distance seller are obliged to authorize a representative with regard to EPR compliance liabilities in Hungary.
