ARA, the largest take-back system for packaging in Austria, has announced substantial price increases for the licensing of paper, plastic, composite beverage cartons and composite materials in 2020. The price adjustments are, among other things, a consequence of the critical situation at the global recycling market. The current import restrictions imposed by China and other Southeast Asian countries are causing an oversupply on the European market. In addition, a take-back system was withdrawn from the Austrian market in 2019, which led to further cost burdens for ARA and other collection systems.
In Germany the paper market is confronted with a lot of problems as well – therefore a lot of take back systems have already announced a massive price increase for 2020.
