According to the new EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), the requirements for producer registration in Belgium and the Netherlands are changing.
In Belgium, the previous threshold for B2C household packaging has already been removed, while in the Netherlands, the threshold is expected to be abolished as of 1 January 2027. As a result, companies placing smaller quantities of packaging on the market will also be subject to registration requirements.
In Belgium, a threshold of 300 kg of B2C packaging placed on the market per year previously applied. Below this amount, no packaging registration was required. Registration is now possible for all producers, regardless of the quantity of packaging placed on the market.
In the Netherlands, the registration requirement currently applies to companies placing 50 tonnes or more of packaging on the market per year, with single-use plastics excluded from this threshold. This threshold is expected to be abolished as of 1 January 2027. Companies can already start preparing for the new requirements, and we are already accepting registration requests.
