We already informed you earlier this year that Denmark will establish a new Extended Producer Responsibility for packaging. Now there are some updates which we want to share with you.
The new EPR will get into force on 1st of July 2025 officially. Nevertheless we were told by Emballageretur (the packaging take back sister scheme of WEEE and battery scheme Elretur) that liable companies will be asked to register from 1st of April 2024 on and report expected volumes 2024 and/or 2025 in between April and September 2024.
The Danish Ministry of Environment estimates that 41,000 companies will be covered by the Extended Producer Responsibility for packaging. In the political agreement, it was decided that there will be a threshold of 8 tonnes of packaging – so companies placing less onto the market are not subject to paying recycling fees but have to report their volumes in a simplified way. At least that is the status quo now. The planned system and the threshold will be reviewed in 2027.
As soon as we get further updates we will let you know.
