New requirements for foreign producers/sellers in Portugal

So far foreign companies (e.g. online shops selling to Portuguese end consumers directly from abroad) were faced with expensive requirements in the fields of WEEE, battery and packaging compliance in Portugal.  They had do fiel their registration documents/mandates with a notarization and an apostille that came along with quite substantial extra costs and additional time.

Some weeks ago the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) accepted to replace apostille as well as notarization with simple signature and company stamp accompanied by a commercial business extract in English that proves the legal powers of the authorized signatory.

That is good news for quite a lot of companies that want to enter the market in Portugal and have to comply with the national obligations in the fields of WEEE, batteries and packaging – especially since the beginning of 2022 when an authorized representative for packaging became mandatory as well.
