Massive price increase for packaging licensing in Germany 2020

The packaging take back systems in Germany are confronted with massive cost increases for the collection, recycling and sorting of sales packaging. Especially in the area of paper and cardboard (PPK) costs will almost double as the costs for the shared use of municipal collection have risen drastically.

Further reasons for the cost increases are the increased security deposits demanded by the various federal states.

One of the aims of the new Packaging Act was to increase the amount of packaging licensed and paid for. According to the Stiftung Zentrale Stelle Verpackungsregister (the German packaging register) this goal wasn´t fully achieved.

As a matter of fact these cost increases will be passed on to customers which results in massive price increases.
