The largest battery take-back system in Germany, GRS, received the approval as a producer own system from the environmental authority in Hamburg at the beginning of 2020. At the same time, the status of “Gemeinsames Rücknahmesystem” was revoked by the German Ministry of the Environment.
With the abolition of a „Gemeinsames Rücknahmesystem“ in Germany, all currently approved producer-owned systems are obliged to submit an offer for the collection of portable batteries.
It is not yet clear what effects this will have on the nationwide disposal of portable batteries.
