German environmental ministry (BMU) published position paper for amendments of the German battery law

Due to some disadvantages in the past and the resulting distortions of competition for members of the biggest German collective take back system for batteries GRS the Germany battery law will be revised.

GRS and ZVEI (association of the German electrical and electronical devices industry) discussed modifications of battery law with the BMU. Based on this the BMU published a position paper with all planned/possible amendments to the battery law.

The paper includes a complete restructuring of the relation between GRS and the producer-specific take back solutions.

Furthermore a central control authority shall be implemented. According to current plans this authority should be Stiftung EAR – the German WEEE authority.
