As part of the implementation of the European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), the Dutch packaging legislation will also be revised. The Dutch packaging EPR scheme, Verpact, has announced that the current threshold of 50 tonnes of packaging per year is expected to be abolished from 2027.
As a result, companies placing smaller quantities of packaging on the Dutch market will also be required to join an EPR scheme and report their packaging volumes.
The current rules will remain in force until the end of 2026. Verpact has announced that it will publish further details on the implementation of the new requirements and the updated reporting obligations later this year.

Companies placing packaging volumes below the current threshold can already register with Verpact on a voluntary basis. This may be beneficial for businesses wishing to support their sustainability goals or offer an additional compliance service to their B2B customers.
