British Columbia (Canada) to include electronical sport euqipment (like Ebikes) in their new WEEE scope

In British Columbia, sporting equipment with electrical or electronic components, including eBicycles, eScooters, eSkateboards and Hoverboards (eTransport), is now regulated under the Recycling Regulation Schedule 3, 2 (1)(g), requiring producers of these products to establish a recycling program and ensure products are recycled responsibly at the end of life.

As a reminder, effective January 1, 2023, the recycling fee applicable to eTransport products will increase to $15.00 from $10.00. The fee increase was necessitated due to the requirement to recycle the entire device versus the battery historically.

In the past, the recycling fee applied to only the battery itself. British Columbia legislation now requires that fees cover the recycling of the eTransport device in its entirety.
