As the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) comes into effect, responsibility for registering and reporting packaging in Denmark changed again on 12 August 2026. When a company based abroad supplies goods to a Danish retailer, the Danish retailer is now responsible for all types of packaging.
Previously, the foreign company had to register and report at least the transport packaging for such deliveries in Denmark. The deciding factor is now who ultimately uses the products: if the foreign company supplies an end user in Denmark directly, it remains responsible.
In many other EU countries, retailers in the destination country are also responsible for reporting packaging associated with deliveries to resellers. Exceptions exist, however, and the rules can vary by packaging type and delivery route. Companies should therefore check their obligations separately for each country where they sell. For Denmark, the key question now is which packaging quantities must be included in their own reports going forward.
