EPR in Norway: E-Bikes no longer in WEEE Scope from 2026 on

Starting in 2026, e-bikes in Norway will no longer fall within the scope of WEEE regulations and therefore will no longer need to be registered in the corresponding EPR take-back system for electrical equipment. As a result, the previous EPR fees for the complete product will no longer apply.

Going forward, regulatory obligations will be handled exclusively under the battery regulations. This means that only the battery contained in the e-bike will remain subject to reporting and fee obligations. The relevant factor will no longer be the total weight of the bicycle, but solely the weight of the installed battery.

Norway generally follows the EPR principles of the European Union closely. This means that manufacturers or first importers are responsible for the disposal and recycling of their products. However, there are practical differences in implementation: in Norway, responsibility is often managed through the importer. In other words, the importer assumes the obligations and costs during the import process or through customs-related procedures.
