Denmark Batteries – Information Regarding Changes to the Battery Regulation and the New Extended Producer Responsibility for Batteries

Batteriretur – the Danish battery take back scheme as sister company from Elretur (WEEE) – informed about some changes for companies involved in battery production and trade in Denmark.

Most of the changes are currently being discussed and evaluated with the Danish national registration body DPA.

According to Batteriretur it is also important to emphasise that although changes will take effect from August 18th, 2025, there will be a transitional period, and the framework for the producer responsibility – including reporting and collection of batteries, etc. – will continue as usual until 31 December 2025.

The most important change that is already known will be a change in reporting duties for portable batteries. For 2025 portables still have to be reported via the Danish tax authority SKAT (and not via Batteriretur/Elretur). From 2026 on reporting of all types of batteries have to be done via Batteriretur.

Batteriretur promised to keep producers informed about any results and decisions of the discussion with DPA in the coming weeks/months – and so do we.
