In 2026, EPR fees for E-bike batteries weighing more than 5 kg have increased significantly in Belgium. The changes affect rechargeable lithium batteries that must be reported through the Belgian battery take-back scheme Bebat.
Under the updated fee structure, the following tariffs now apply:
- Lithium rechargeable batteries 2–5 kg (including E-bike batteries): €8.50 per unit
- Lithium rechargeable batteries 5–15 kg (including E-bike batteries): €27.50 per unit
Since many E-bike batteries fall into the above-5-kg category, manufacturers, importers, and distributors of E-bikes may face considerably higher EPR compliance costs when placing products on the Belgian market.
Companies should therefore review which weight category their batteries fall into, as this directly determines the applicable fee. The new tariffs may have a noticeable impact on the cost structure, particularly within the bicycle and e-bike sector.
