Manufacturers, distributors, and other obligated parties placing industrial batteries on the market in Germany – including e-bike batteries – are required under § 15 (3) of the German Battery Act (BattG) to publish the recycling rates achieved in the previous calendar year on their company website by May 31 each year.
In addition, distributors of industrial batteries are obliged to report on the collection and recycling of these batteries. This responsibility can be centrally managed by the manufacturer – for example, through a joint compliance report submitted to the German Environment Agency (UBA). Our German partner take-back system GRS eMobility, specialized in e-bike batteries, already fulfills this reporting obligation for numerous Go4Recycling clients and provides all required documentation in line with official regulatory standards.
The publication requirement can be met, for instance, by including a general note regarding the recycling quota on your website. This text block can be reused annually – as long as there are no changes in the recycling rate – and can be provided by the Go4Recycling team upon request.
Alternatively, or in addition, it is also possible to meet this requirement by including a link to the relevant information page of the EPR battery take-back system.
Our recommendation: Check whether your company is affected by this regulation and ensure that all necessary steps are implemented by the deadline.
If you have any questions or uncertainties regarding industrial batteries, please feel free to contact the Go4Recycling team at any time.
