On 12th of May 2017 the German Federal Assembly (“Bundesrat”) passed the new packaging waste law after this environmental law was already adopted by the parliament in March 2017.
The new law will come into force on 01/01/2019 and will have some important amendments for companies and take-back systems. The most important change is the establishment of the so-called „Zentrale Stelle“ (centrale control authority). This authority should control and supervise liable companies and the take-back systems.
Further changes include increased recycling quotas and more complex reporting methods – as well as take-back obligations.
