Belgian battery take back scheme Bebat adjusts prices in 2026

Bebat announced that they will have to increase their contributions on a general basis for the first time in 13 years from 2026 on – and due to the new EU battery regulation also has to introduce new reporting codes based on the new 5 battery categories.

For the first time in 13 years, Bebat is required to implement a general increase in contributions. This is necessary to absorb rising costs and new obligations. Since 2013, Bebat has reduced the environmental contribution for most batteries several times, by a total of 57%. In the same period, inflation has risen by 35%, of which 25% in the last five years alone. Life has become more expensive, and so have our costs for the collection, sorting, and recycling of waste batteries.

To continue to guarantee a sustainable and safe collection system for waste batteries in the future, Bebat will implement an increase in  contributions from 1 January 2026. This adjustment is necessary to cope with rising costs and the stricter obligations arising from the European Battery Regulation 2023/1542.

Some examples of those price increases from 2026 on:

  • Ebike batteries Li-Ion from 2-5 kg will rise to 8,50 €/unit
  • Ebike batteries Li-Ion from 5kg on will cost 27,50 €/unit
  • ESS (energy storage systems) Li-Ion contribution = 2,89 €/kg

We will update the prices in our customers´ accounts on our Go4Recycling client portal and also take care of the new necessary reporting codes – no action from your side needed.

If you have any further questions on packaging, WEEE and battery compliance in Belgium please do not hesitate to contact the Go4Recycling team.
