The Swiss Federal Council approved a revision of the VREG in October 2021.
The VREG is the law on the return, take-back and disposal of electrical and electronic equipment.
The scope of the WEEE law is extended to all types of electrical and electronic equipment. This includes in particular electrical equipment such as medical devices, monitoring and control instruments, automatic dispensers photovoltaic modules etc. that were not in scope until now. The environmental authority will publish a list with all relevant devices soon.
The changes will come into force on 1.1.2022 for all types of electrical and electronic equipment.
Basically recycling in Switzerland is organised by take back systems like SENS eRecycling for household appliances or SWICO for IT equipment. The vRG partners finance a nationwide take-back system with their recycling fees (vRG).
The third WEEE take back system Stiftung Licht Recycling Schweiz (SLRS) has merged with the SENS Foundation with retroactive effect from 01.01.2021.
